| | ELIZABETH BINGHAM Associate Consultant | Elizabeth E. Bingham (Beth) works as a fulltime library consultant, working with governmental agencies, all types of libraries, corporations and non-profit organizations in the United States and abroad. Beth has served as an education and literacy advisor for the past three governors of the state of Louisiana .Ms. Bingham has over 34 years experience working in and for libraries and their patrons. She is presently working with Senior Service America, Inc, a non-profit organization in Washington, D.C. that runs the Senior Aides Program serving more than 15,000 low-income seniors in hundreds of communities across America. The Senior Aides Program enables organizations to staff community programs with seniors who are paid with federal grant money. Ms. Bingham is creating model training opportunities for seniors in school and public libraries. She is educating the library community about the expansion of services that are possible with the addition of trained seniors in the library workforce. The seniors gain skills and confidence to obtain non-subsidized full-time employment. She served the U.S. National Commission on Libraries and Information Science as consultant to Sister Libraries: A White House Millennium Council Project. Her responsibilities include the design and implementation of international Millennium project matching libraries worldwide, initially focusing on programs for children and teenagers. She assisted in selection of designated sites, ongoing evaluation, and review of projects, recruitment, and workshops. The majority of the 350 sites were school libraries. She was able to visit and work with the librarians around the world. Past experience includes collection development consultant services for Senior Service America, Inc, Silver Spring, MD, the Richardson Public Library, Richardson, TX, Bandera County Library, Bandera, TX, Loveland Public Library, Loveland, CO and Lincoln Parish Library, Ruston, LA. Throughout her library career, she has been involved with collection development responsibilities for a large urban public library system with 12 branches of various sizes. These responsibilities included weeding, reading reviews, making purchase recommendations based on user needs and materials available through inter-library loan. She has also worked with the Calcasieu Parish School System, Lake Charles, LA, for the redesign and renovation of the John F. Kennedy Elementary School. While serving as President of the Louisiana Library Association, she was actively involved with the development of school library standards which included facility design, renovation and technology issues. Working with design and implementation of the national award winning Prime Time Family Reading Time family literacy program, she worked with public and school librarians as well as education specialists to design and select materials for this program. Ms. Bingham worked with the First Presbyterian Church in Baton Rouge, where Ms. Bingham assisted with the design of a new church library and oversaw development for automation and collection development for the library. She has also consulted for Cancer Services of Greater Baton Rouge, in planning, designing and implementation of special library, selecting and ordering all materials, writing grants to secure funds, and assisting with the capital campaign. During her service as Head of the Mid-City Branch of the East Baton Rouge Parish Library, in addition to administration of the library, she worked with contractors, architects, and builders during construction of a new Main Library. She was involved in creation of the Adult Services Division to develop programming component for the System. Ms. Bingham retired as Head of Adult and Circulation Services for the East Baton Rouge Parish Library after 31 years of service. Her many duties included managing and supervising one of the busiest single facilities in the United States, including circulation for the entire system, collection development responsibilities, weeding, managing records of 250,000 patrons, adult literacy activities and adult programming. She oversaw a staff of 45. She was responsible for the receipt of three NEH grants in 1998-99, one in 1997, two in 1995, and one in 1993. Ms. Bingham has experience in planning award-winning adult programs, grant writing, planning, training, scheduling, marketing, establishing system-wide circulation procedures, coordinating literacy activities. Additionally, she has assisted in the renovation and retrofitting of the Main Library and in custom design of furnishings for the Circulation Division. As an associate consultant with PROVIDENCE Associates Inc Beth has worked with Dick Waters on projects in Taipei, Taiwan, Tracey (CA) , Stockton-San Joaquin Public Library, on a feasibility study for a joint-use school/public/community college library, Lincoln Parish, LA (public library), San Bernardino County (CA) Library, Loveland (CO) Public Library, Richardson Public Library, Richardson, TX, and the Bandera County (TX) Library master plan. | | |
