WILLIAM J. WILSON

Mr. Wilson's qualifications include 19 years working in and administering public library systems, three years as state librarian in Wisconsin, and for the past 12 years working with PROVIDENCE Associates Inc and his own firm, Himmel & Wilson Library Consultants. Bill's work with PROVIDENCE has been primarily in the areas of focus group leadership, demographic analysis using geographic information system tools such as Arc-View, long-range planning, and information technology.

Mr. Wilson is Principal Partner of Himmel & Wilson, Library Consultants. Bill and partner (and wife) Ethel Himmel completed a new library planning process for the Public Library Association -- "PLANNING FOR RESULTS: A Library Transformation Process", published by the ALA. She and her partner have also co-written "The Functions and Roles of State Library Agencies", published by the American Library Association.

Bill received his MLS from the State University of New York – Buffalo, and his BA from Gordon College, Wenham, MA, where he majored in English Literature. He has completed doctoral studies at the University of Wisconsin - Madison with a major in Librarianship and a minor in Urban and Regional Planning

He is President, Wisconsin Center for the Book and past President of the Wisconsin Library Association. He currently also serves as Vice President, Board of Trustees, Milton Public Library and as a member of the board of the Wisconsin Library Association Foundation. He was the recipient of the Wisconsin Library Association’s Special Service Award in 1990 and their Distinguished Service Award in 1996.
